I can’t hear the demo project
Installation, registration and basic setup 21
I can see meters moving in SONAR, but I don't hear anything
The most likely cause of this is the volume for sound device is simply too low. You can check
the volume of most devices right in Windows by double-clicking on the speaker icon that
appears in the system tray in the lower right corner of the screen, next to the clock.
Some audio devices have a hardware knob or fader that controls the output or “volume” of
the device.
Audio starts to play, but I get a message that says DROPOUT or AUDIO
STOPPED either in a dialog or in the Control Bar
A dropout is a symptom of audio hardware when it is unable to pass audio data fast enough.
There are a few things that may alleviate this:
Increase the buffer size or mixing latency. Go to Edit > Preferences > Audio - Driver
Settings and increase the value of the Buffer Size slider, or adjust the hardware buffer size
in the ASIO Panel.
Changing the Playback Device. Many devices support multiple driver modes. Go to
Edit > Preferences > Audio - Playback and Recording, click the Driver Mode drop-down
list and see if another option is available for your sound card or device, such as <name of
your sound card> (MME 32-bit) versus <name of your sound card> (WDM/KS).
Ensuring nothing else is trying to use the sound device at the same time. SONAR will
perform best when there are no other software applications attempting to use the sound
device, examples include web browsers, video players, instant messaging clients and other
sound applications.
